How does a Continuous Flow Hot Water System work?

To put this in perspective, for example, in NSW, Water efficiency measures for shower heads are a maximum flow rate of 9 litres per minute (3-star rated water efficiency). So, continuous flow hot water systems will work for showers, dishwashers, taps, etc. The minimum flow rate when you turn on the tap will be greater than 1.5L/minute and 2.7L/minute.

Types of Continuous Flow Hot Water Systems

Continuous Flow hot water systems are available in both Natural Gas and LPG. All continuous flow systems have fan-forced electronic ignition, so there is no need to relight pilot flames. However, it is important to note that mechanical Instantaneous Systems can still have a pilot flame. Mechanical instantaneous systems include – the Bosch Hydropower range, Rinnai Hotflo 10, and Rheem Pronto range.

Temperature control
Another benefit of a continuous flow hot water system is the control you have over the water temperature. With the precise heating of the appliance, you can meet the Australian Standards for the domestic dwelling of 50 degrees to bathroom fixtures, negating the need for the use of tempering valves. For even more precise temperature control, you have the option of a touchpad or controller that gives an exact temperature at the fixture without having to use cold water. This is especially useful for kids at bath times.
